I think I made a comment to that effect in the forums, when the comic first started, but I don’t have time to find it now. No, wait, I lie: I think I surmised that the Bottle was vacant because the previous occupant had completed her service. Something like that.

In any event, I didn’t think to connect it with this.

I’m struck by the current genie’s immediate reaction: she checks her boobs. She likes having boobs, and is pretty satisfied with this pair. OK, I get that.

But why is having hands not confirmation enough?

I think everyone has forgotten that Guano believes Jean is a Genie, locked in a very old bottle. The most likely explanation for this is that there was indeed a Genie locked in a very old bottle, who somehow bequeathed her body and powers to Jean. My own opinion – that Genie was thinking for a very long time about how to get out of the whole ‘slave to random mortals’ thing, and that turning Jean into her was part of a plan to hide from the wrath of Lord Guano.

I could be wrong, but from the beginning of this strip it just seemed that there was a missing party – the Genie who was originally in the bottle. Maybe she just had her grand entrance…
