The more I think on this, the more I think Melvin’s crushing on a teacher. I can’t explain why, though.

The closest I can get is that a fellow student would be too attainable. Deep inside, he knows he could approach a student, but he’d get shot down.

A teacher, on the other hand, is so far beyond his reach he doesn’t have to worry about even trying.

Also, I think the older lover thing is powerful for both boys and girls. Someone hot who actually knows what to do!
