The Blue Djinn is an evil genie who was apparently defeated by Lord Guano in the past. But now he's back, and he's angling to take down the Genie Lords... but how does Jeanie factor into his plans?
Jean AKA Jeannie AKA Jeanie is a film, book, and magazine reviewer for a national magazine. Most of Jean’s work is done through email, which means he doesn't have to go into the office.
On a trip to find a gift for his girlfriend, Jean found an empty Genie Bottle. Upon picking up this bottle, Jean became the bottle’s new genie-powered occupant. Not only was Jean turned into a genie, but the bottle turned him into what he believed a genie of the bottle should look like. Which, due to his fascination with a classic 60s TV show, turned him into a busty blonde woman.
Mimic trap? hair? are we gonna get another Jean look alike? I think maybe a clone with the hots for Neil (for a change) thanks to his hair.
None the less, if Blue like Araceli thinks that happy loving Jeanie will kept Neil at peace, then now we know he doesn’t have access to her memories, nor her backstory.
Carlos time or two that the clone idea was used, they didn’t work out to well. They have the physical appearance and you can see them and all, but, they have no personality. They like an empty shell of a person with nobody home. The only way that, that clone idea is going to get any traction at all, is if the blue Djinn is going to merge either Neil or somebody else with that Genie hair to form that clone and make them think that there Jeanie too or other wise that clone idea will fall apart in fairly short order. But, cloning Jeanie by drawing somebody else into the mex to form that other Jeanie, now that might work for a little while anyway. That way your not just dealing with an empty vessel with nobody home in it.
Another idea, is that he could be building a temporary vessel for himself too encase he has to retreat from having control of Jeanie body for some reason or possibly he trying to lay a trap or something like that. I think that, that is more likely what going on here.
@Larry the thing is that those previous clones or dummies as Jeanie call them, were made entirely of genie magic in a single poof, whatever Blue is doing here is more like classic witchcraft, with ingredients like some part of the “victim” and even some exotic elements like the mimic plant in this case, not to mention the word mimic in fiction is already associate with any kind of entity able to shapeshift to trick it’s victims.
Considering that Blue is not “poofing” anything (though Blue’s magic doesn’t seem to use poofs so far) but instead mixing hair with a “mimic” in hopes to kept Neil busy. From there I assume he is making a clone, the logic plan for me at least would be for the clone being of Jeanie and Neil’s hair is to make the mimic attached to him and take care of him, yet again the Mimic could also be either able to take Neil’s or Natalie’s form or even a mix of Jean and Neil, for now anything goes.
OK, then let assume that Blue Djinn not just using Genie Magic and that he also mixing in Witchcraft magic to boot, which he can do, because, he was negotiating with some faction of the witches to try and overpower Haji and take over the Genie world and maybe even the witchcraft magic under his rule. It also show why Kazom alliance with Melvin Dad was absolutely necessary, to counteract another faction of the Witch world that Blue Djinn is using to take power from Haji with.
We also know that there are certain rule for Genie Magic and I am also certain that there are also certain rule for witch magic too, but, we don’t know what they are, but, we do know that there has to be rule even if we don’t know what those rule are right now.
But, we do know that when ever Genie magic is used in congestion with Witch magic, that some interesting and unforeseen seen side affects do occur. Even assuming that it was Neil or Natalie and Jeanie hair that he pick up in the bath of Neil/Jeanie bath room and combination of Jeanie hair with Neil hair, then there are three or four possibilities here, Neil/Jeanie=Neil Clone, Neil/Jean=Jeanie Clone, Natalie/Jeanie=Natalie Clone, Neil/Natalie/Jeanie=? Clone. Also, with the Blue Djinn merging both Neil and Jeanie hair together into one Clone, the individual hairs will loose there individual identity from the person that they came from and may form there own identity too or this may be a love potion that the Blue Djinn is cooking up to make Neil fall madly in love with Jeanie so he wouldn’t even think of getting rid of Jeanie and of course Jeanie will also fall madly in love with Neil too. So everybody thinking that the Blue Djinn is trying to Clone someone, it could be a love potion or to do some other kind of magic that would be alone witch kind of magic.
I admit this is kind of twisted thinking, but, then the Blue Djinn is kind of twisted in the way he thinks too and for somebody like him, it might not be so far off with the way he is actually thinking.
OK, I may have talked a little more of what I should, just to be clear, when I mentioned witchcraft I was meaning the classic image of the a witch mixing ingredients to make magic in her pod, like Blue here with the Mimic Trap. Also, speaking as the guy who is writing the witch magic rules back at MC right now, I have NO idea of what is going on here, I am just sharing my theories and opinions as any other reader. Right now I believe Blue is making a clone just based in the use of the word mimic, as you say, it could be also be a potion or something, though, to make a “love” potion he could just mess with Neil brain again, I assume that the same trick on his male brain would have the same effect as a love potion to fall for Jeanie.
Also, just to be clear here, the faction of witches you talk about, they were after the “power of the Djinn”, there is not mention as if this was the Blue Djinn specifically, after all, Blue was defeated back in the 60’s, many years before Kazom even meet with Thomas Clark. Just saying.
Also, if you are curious, these are the Witch magic rules known so far: Witch magic and genie magic don’t mix (but this one is a little tricky), teleportation is an advance spell for a witch and casting magic without the use of spells is a rare sign among them and is associate with strong witches. Also, the high Council of Witches don’t seem to be to fond on the idea of Witches and Genies working together.
We will know some new rules more sooner than later on the next couple of months.
Why do I have the feeling that is not one of Neil’s hairs? Judging by the length of it, I’m thinking it is one of Natalie’s. That could cause some chaos. I can see it now, Jean appears with the hots for Natalie but will be happy to settle for Neil. 😉
Hey, Jean is still attracted to women. If this is the case, I wonder if the clone can use magic and therefore get Neil into his girl suit . . . I wonder. Or would the clone even know Neil is Natalie?
As much as I want more Natalie in the comic, as many times as posible, I think that looking at Neil’s normal haircut, that one hair isn’t even that long.
None the less, now I have the thought, what if the clone gets on Neil’s nerve, either for seducing him ala “I dream of green eyes” or hopefully by turning him into Natalie, Neil’r end banishing Jean by accident, but it’s Blue the one who is send to Haji’s palace while Neil is left alone with the clone?
@Kattgirl – if Caley wasn’t a redhead, I’d believe that in a heartbeat. The fact that his sister’s daughter looks awfully similar to him makes me think that it’s his natural hair color, though.
“Mimic Trap” kinda suggests a carnivorous plant. I really don’t understand why Blue uses hair he thinks is from both Neil and Jean. However, if DNA isn’t fictional in in Jeanie like it is in Sailormoon.org, it would seem that if the mimic grows a clone based on that DNA, it would turn out to be male. That may not be the right guess, but I’m sure Blue is making some mistake here.
We know that if Blue Djinn is making a clone for Neil, be know that she will be an Air-head, because, every clone up to this point has been an Air-head. Unless of course, Blue Djinn knows something that we don’t, then all bet are off as to whether the Blue Djinn create a living breathing clone that will serve his purposes in times like this.
CD is on hiatus, but he left a sizable buffer of comics behind before he left. There are a few more weeks of story comics left before the hiatus officially begins.
At one point Araceli tricked Jean into swapping Totems. The hair from the bottle could be from Araceli. Since Rodger has been in the apartment it could be a jean/Rodger, a Rodger/Natalie, or best a Rodger/Araceli. I wonder what a Natalie/Araceli hybrid would look like.
So what’s with all the material based magic recipe thing? I thought Genies/Djinn didn’t need all of that potion making type stuff. Y’know just cross the arms, blink or a snap of the fingers and ZAP! the deed is done.
Blue was infamous for finding his way around the rules of Haji, like we see with the messing of brain chemistry to get around the free will of the mortals, as we see recently. I asume another trick to avoid the watch of Haji and the Lords is using other kind of magics that they cannot control, like the ones that require magic ingredients.
Basically, the Blue Djinn is a rough Genie, if he can’t do what he needs to do with Genie magic, then he not above using some other kind of magic to get what he wants and to skirt Haji rule or to hide what he doing from the other Genie. The Genie rules that you refer to, was laid down by Haji for all the Genie under his command to have to honor the rules or suffer retribution from Haji. But, the Blue Djinn isn’t under Haji authority and is another very powerful Genie that can and does operate independently of and even contrary to Haji, his rule and the rest of the Genie realm. He can bend the Genie rules and generally does to accomplish his goal. He will also use other kinds of Magic too, which the other Genie aren’t aloud to use too or won’t use for what ever reason.
In the game Reign of Dragons, a mimic trap protects a treasure piece one time. “When someone targets a treasure piece that has a trap on it, if the defending player will win anyways, the trap is not triggered, but if the defending player is going to lose, then the mimic trap is triggered, the attacker receives a You Lose result along with an image of a mimic trap.”
In Miss Kubayashi’s Dragon Maid, Fafnir, a dragon presenting as a rather goth man, falls into a mimic trap, a treasure chest that eats him while playing Dark Souls. Watch on youtube, /watch?v=uCSGFc4RWv4
That bit from Dragon Maid is probably a Final Fantasy reference. There is a recurring enemy in that series called a Mimic, which pretends to be a treasure chest, until you try to open it, which is when it attacks you.
Really? No way the Mimic could have been a Dungeons and Dragons reference, which has the exact same monster to scare the pee out of cocky adventurers?
Heheheheh . . . I wrecked a party DMing with a group of Mimics in the “treasure” room of a castle. So worth sleeping on the couch over my girlfriend’s dead dwarf wilder.
I’m attempt to comment on references to “mimic traps” I’ve found elsewhere, but the posts are not appearing. Is there a glitch? Have I done something wrong?
[OK, this post appeared. I must be getting caught in the spam trap, although I’ve tried not include any links in my post.]
I missed one. The hair from the bottle could also belong to Rouyaa. So the bottle hair could be Rouyaa, Jean or Araceli. The hair from the apartment could be Neil, Natalie, Jean, Rodger, or Belle. Lord bat poop is bald so he is out.
The thinks is, we have a brown hair from Neil’s side of the house, and one blonde hair directly out of Jean’s head, so I don’t think there is really any mystery in regards as to who this hairs belong to, at best the brown one could be of Natalie, but still, I don’t think it’s even that long, so when this doesn’t goes as Blue intends I doubt it would be for the ingredients used.
And it looks hideously uncomfortable. Those boomerang things could really dig in. Maybe that’s why the Blue Meanie is so grumpy all the time. He just needs better-fitting lingerie.
Went back and read the comic again. You are right in the one hair came from jean. The other hair looks to long for Neil and to short for Natalie. I am now guessing that it belongs to Aracelia. A Jeanie/Aracelia hookup would be interesting.
No it not Aracelie hair, he Pacifically say that one of the hair is from a Genie and we see him pulling a few hair from Jeanie head in the above third frame up above. So we know the firs hair is Jeanie hair. The second hair, he say it a human hair, so that leave out all other Genie as to who head the second hair came from.
Our choices are of the many choices that other people have said are:
1. Neil hair.
2. Natalie hair.
3. Rodge hair.
4. Belle hair.
Give the choices so far, I betting that it Neil hair.
Also, let’s be honest, CD doesn’t tend to make things by accident, if he wanted to just draw on single hair, tracing a simple line is enough, but in this case he take the effort to make it clear that the hair on NEIL’S ROOM is also brown, and shorter than the blonde women hair of Jeanie, so again, it has to be from Neil, maybe Natalie, but I insist is a little short for that, but it’s long enough for Neil.
@Larry: You’re assuming the BD can tell a human hair from a genie’s hair just by looking at it. Maybe he can… and then again, maybe he’s going to get surprised.
@Kattgirl, Blue Djinn seem to think he can tell the difference between a human hair and Genie hair, that all I am going on.
But, whether it two kinds of Genie Hairs or Jeanie and Neil Hair, thing aren’t going to go the way the Blue Djinn want them to go. A Genie not suppose to use witch magic, it like trying to mex oil and water together or trying to plug Alternation current into Direct current without a converter, bad things are going to happen.
Because, Blue Djinn is using some form of witch magic or incantation or potion instead of Genie magic it will blow up in his face, the question is: Hows it going to blow up? That the only question here to be answered.
@Kattgirl – sadly, I’ve never played either of those. I started playing during high school (the early Naughties, for reference) with 3rd Edition, went to 3.5, and then merged that with Pathfinder. I currently play about once a month with my girlfriend and a rotating cast of 6-ish people we met at our LGS, and we might have to track those down once we finish our current campaign, as they come recommended from another tabletop veteran (you, of course).
The one fact that the Blue Djinn doesn’t know is that Jeannie used to be a man. So yes, he’s cooking up a Jean-clone to keep the master (Neil) busy. But when it comes out, it will take on the original form of the ‘bottle genie’ – and so we will have a male Jean-clone trying to romance Neil.
I like the idea, that could be one of the way that this could blow up in Blue Djinn face and I am sure that there are other ways that this could blow up in Blue Djinn face too. Now that Jeanie bottle has an occupant in it, the clone doesn’t have to be a female and could vary well come out as a Genie Jeanie type or could very well come out a more human male type or Jean type, to the surprise of the Blue Djinn of course. The having a male jean type of person romancing Neil, now that would be funny too.
I don’t think it going to happen, but, I like the idea!
When ever you cross Genie magic with Witch magic, you will generally end up with a major short circuit or major over load of conflicting type of magic, it won’t end well for the Blue Djinn.
Ok guys, just to be clear, that I am afraid to be giving the wrong idea, when I use the word witchcraft before it was just an example, you know, magic potions and such, I don’t have any idea of what’s going on here, as far as I know that plan could be some kind of fairy or an alien, CD was writing this story long before I got to work at MC and I have no idea if he has any intentions to work with witchcraft or not in the main comic… with that said, you are right that mixing genie magic and witch magic is a bad idea, more on that next Tuesday.
I’m grasping at straws here but what are the chance that brown hair he found could be from Andy or even Sid. I doubt that jean ever cleaned the apartment.
Hahaha! That’s a great idea! In that case, the Jean-clone will be hunting for a corpse. Picture Neil trying to stop her from digging up graveyards, looking for Andy… !
Two problems with that. 1, BD is in Neil’s apartment, judging by those books/binders on the shelves (pretty sure I’ve seen those in Neil’s TARDISpartment before, though the wall might not be the right color). 2, the landlord would have been legally obligated to clean the apartment before renting it out to Jean, as the previous tenant died within (mentioned near the end of I Dream of Technicolor, which made it cheap enough for Jean to rent in the first place). And since word seemed to have gotten around about the death, a thorough scrubbing would have needed to be done just to keep up the appearance of a non-slumlord.
Yeah, but regarding point 1, remember that Jean magically moved Neil’s apartment into her own. So it’s sort of a duplex now. (Which will undoubtedly surprise the hell out of the landlord, should he ever inspect the place.)
Whatever she is doing, it probably will be over in a few pages….
Also is top she’s wearing a corset now? Since thats what it looks like in panel two.
Nah, if you look at the previous page you will see that Blue’s top have some details made of a hard material at the sides.
Mimic trap? hair? are we gonna get another Jean look alike? I think maybe a clone with the hots for Neil (for a change) thanks to his hair.
None the less, if Blue like Araceli thinks that happy loving Jeanie will kept Neil at peace, then now we know he doesn’t have access to her memories, nor her backstory.
Huh, good point!
Agreed. I think this plot is going to blow up in Blue D’s face very quickly.
Carlos time or two that the clone idea was used, they didn’t work out to well. They have the physical appearance and you can see them and all, but, they have no personality. They like an empty shell of a person with nobody home. That makes me wonder – one other person has been over there a lot – suppose it’s one of Rodge’s hairs?
Dang it, I had intended to mention the hair possibly belonging to Roger as well.
Thanks for bringing it up.
@Kattgirl – the hair BD found is definitely brown, not red. Shame, since that would have been interesting.
@He Who Abides:
Maybe Rodge colors his hair.
@Kattgirl – if Caley wasn’t a redhead, I’d believe that in a heartbeat. The fact that his sister’s daughter looks awfully similar to him makes me think that it’s his natural hair color, though.
Is… Is this going to be like the Black Mercy from the superman story “For the Man who has Everything”?
Ugh, I hope not. That thing was awful.
I smell a attack of the geanie clone coming
Given how outdated should be that blue genie guy, something hilarious is coming…
“Mimic Trap” kinda suggests a carnivorous plant. I really don’t understand why Blue uses hair he thinks is from both Neil and Jean. Uh-oh. A Neal/Jean-hybrid to serve as bait for a magical Venus flytrap…?
wait, is he making a real Natalie!?
I think not. More like a Jeannie-clone that will be attracted to Neil.
Wait I thought we were in a hiatus?
CD is on hiatus, but he left a sizable buffer of comics behind before he left. There are a few more weeks of story comics left before the hiatus officially begins.
Yeah, it seems it’s something like the black mercy plant.
How much do you want to bet that the hair Blue Djinn found will turn out to be from some one other than Neil or at lest the male Neil.
That seems to be a common theory among the comments. It’s certainly an interesting idea!

Ah, okay I get it. What Blue is doing is to skirt around Djinn law and cheat.
BD does not cheat. He simply plays by alternative rules.
Speaking of genie rules, you all can learn some “new” ones, at Melvin Chronicles, right now…just saying.

[OK, this post appeared. I must be getting caught in the spam trap, although I’ve tried not include any links in my post.]
Yeah, sorry about that. I guess the spam filter is really strict. I’ve restored your original post.
Shouldn’t this also involve cloth and fingernails?
The eye of newt and tongue of frog come in later.

Also – the boomerang corset is HILARIOUS lol
It’s really more of a bra than a corset.
And it looks hideously uncomfortable. Those boomerang things could really dig in. Maybe that’s why the Blue Meanie is so grumpy all the time. He just needs better-fitting lingerie.
And pants, if the last page is anything to go by.

Because, Blue Djinn is using some form of witch magic or incantation or potion instead of Genie magic it will blow up in his face, the question is: Hows it going to blow up? That the only question here to be answered.
I’m thinking someone’s a fan of classic Superman
That or classic D&D.
I’m glad I’m not the only one who thought of something other than Final Fantasy or Dark Souls when the RPGs started coming to mind.
@He Who Abides:
Yeah, I was a tabletop gamer. Remember Knights of the Dinner Table? “Eric and the Dread Gazebo”?
Now it’s LARP time.
Newest Crackpot Theory:
Oh, gad, I just realized where this is going…
The one fact that the Blue Djinn doesn’t know is that Jeannie used to be a man. So yes, he’s cooking up a Jean-clone to keep the master (Neil) busy. But when it comes out, it will take on the original form of the ‘bottle genie’ – and so we will have a male Jean-clone trying to romance Neil.
[Hilarity ensues. ]
But your second point is well taken. Damn.
