You might well be right – but this is only about 5 years later, and, of course, some people need glasses even when they’re children. A genie wouldn’t, because, well, magic; but as soon as she lost her powers she might suddenly have become vulnerable to human failings like poor eyesight that her magic would have previously corrected.
No, that not possible. She was born a Genie from a Genie family and Jean drafted to be a Genie from us mortal to take the place of one of there Genie that no longer a Genie. Rouyaa is in excess of 2000 years old or minimum 80 generation away from Jean even if they were related to each other. So no, for all intents and purpose, there not related to each other.
Yes, it is possible, although it seems less and less likely to me. It isn’t unheard of for older women to have children; Admiral Yamamoto’s mother was 47 when he was born in an age before in vitro. And Rouyaa’s human aging clock wouldn’t have started until she lost her powers; if she became her real age, she’d be so old she’d die immediately.
If Kazom’s explanation of genie mortality (given to Jean when she was Melvin’s temporary genie) holds, one might expect that Rouyaa would have died as soon as her magic was taken from her. And if she kept her magic but was prevented from using it, it seems she wouldn’t have aged at all. Either genies start aging when they run out of magic (which would seem a short time for such long-lived beings) or Rouyaa was either blessed or cursed with normal human aging.
It’s totally IDOJ canon that genies can have children with humans and the fact that Araceli wants to marry Neil pretty much makes it Jeanie Bottle canon. There’s even a body of religious arguments in Islam about humans marrying jinn, with some scholars saying “yes” and some “no.”
The reason Enterprise was not retrofitted was because of the design changes made during the construction of Columbia, which made it cheaper to build a new shuttle than to retrofit Enterprise (as Andy was arguing in said comic). This happened in late 1978, so if Rouyya appeared halfway through the Great Depression, in 1934, then it would be 2-3 years later. However, there’s some flex; the earliest it could be is 1933 and the latest would be 1938 or the beginning of 1939. So, anywhere from 1980 to 1986.
Now that might be a possibility. Because, she has to live somewhere in Cocoa Beach, why not the manager place in the Apartment building that Neil live in. Beside it would add a slightly different twist to the story. She might even mentor Jean a little bit or such. If she trying to hid from the other Genie, she would pick another name like Eden or something anyway.
I am not going to say that this is going to happen, but, it possible.
Another possibility: There were so many similarities between the characters of this comic and the show. What if she’s the cause of that? If she’s lost her memory of her master she could try to hold on to it by piecing together a new life based on the show by bring together people with the right names and/or jobs. It might even be subconscious on her part.
There’s another possibility, especially if years have passed before Rouyaa gets off that bus in Cocoa Beach: Andy could have died of old age. When she lost her powers, it was around forty years since Andy found her bottle.
You know, I’ve been pretty cool with the skipping around this story has been doing. There is a lot to cover here, so we need to jump to the important parts and leave the rest to be inferred.
But I think we are really missing something to have her infer that her old master might be here because of the TV show. I think that would have been a fun revelation to watch. Does she see the show and realize something is up? Or did the memory loss not take the memory of the show, as that was not a memory of her master per-se? Did she try to contact the writer of the show?
I would have liked to have seen that story play out.
> Or did the memory loss not take the memory of the show, as that was not a memory of her master per-se?
This one seems like the logical answer. She’s probably spent a while trying to recall whatever memories she could that weren’t removed, and at some point remembered that there was a TV show that was loosely based on her life with her master.
Well, she did know the creator of the show. Maybe her memories of him weren’t taken away, since he was not her master. She could very well remember that he wrote the series about her and her master.
I thought maybe the bus would help, it could kind of be a “Scenicruiser” but Greyhound stopped using them in 1976. A few did run for other companies secondhand after that.
I get this weird feeling that Jean could be related to her in some way, could Rouyaa be Jeans mother or grandmother? Or perhaps Neil is a descendant!
A really weird one, Jean was actually born a girl jinn and transformed into a mortal male as an infant to hide the baby from some evil force.
Perhaps finding the bottle and being transformed was planned all along, was the bottle planted so Jean would find it? Jean may have some supernatural genes all along. If true imagine the mindfark when Jean finds out the truth she was originally a she!
“The writer fudged the story…”, Shame on you for thinking I’d cheap out on ya’ll.
“…It will ultimately get resolved by Neil and Gene in subsequent chapters..”, Ack… that would leave me a pretty bad story teller to leave you all on that said note.
So, is this another time skip? Having a caption bar that shows the current year at least would make this less sequence-breaking.
that is a good idea
That ruins the fun of letting you all figure out what the time period in the comic is..
Maybe just a generic later then.
It has probably been weeks at least.
The “hunger” line implies that Rouyaa is very short on money–she may have spent what she had on the bus tickets.
I wonder if Rouyaa has any more to go on than “man who works/worked for NASA and lived in Cocoa Beach”.
I suspect that YEARS have passed. Why else would she need to wear glasses, except that she’s older and her eyes are failing?

Wow. This is sort of like an “Incredible Journey” kind of thing.
Her loyalty and dedication is amazing. And heart-wrenching.
I couldn’t think of anywhere better to start…so long as it’s not this week, ’cause Cocoa Beach is still in cleanup mode from Hurricane Matthew.
From the looks of the styling on that bus I’d say this is still decades in the past.

Rouyaa (at the time of her release was 302 years old.)

Which would make her about 349 in this comic.
(And if you can do the math and figure out the clues, you can determine what the year of this comic is 😀 )

Is she turning into Ms Eden?

“My name is Ray. I’ve been looking for you for years.”
“Okay, okay, fine, if it means that much to you!” *ka-boy*
“Um… what?”
There’s another possibility, especially if years have passed before Rouyaa gets off that bus in Cocoa Beach: Andy could have died of old age. When she lost her powers, it was around forty years since Andy found her bottle.
Story is getting harder to move through, the plot is thickening! Stupid thickening plot making stories move slower…….

Well, I hope she finds the right guy anyhow.
Hm. If she’s short of money, she could sell her bottle; it’s at least 350 years old, so it would have some value as an antique.
The year here is about 1985, which means Andy is now about 67. I hope they find each other again before it’s too late.

My head asploded!!!!
> A really weird one, Jean was actually born a girl jinn and transformed into a mortal male as an infant to hide the baby from some evil force.
This is virtually the exact plot of one of my favorite Ranma 1/2 fanfics, Genma’s Daughter.
It’s also the plot of one of the “Oz” books.
Ranma 1/2! One of my all time favorites there!
It would be great to have a cameo or crossover from that series! At least a lost Ryouga or P-chan!
Welp, I was proven wrong very quickly.

What Jeans reaction might look like if she had found out she’d originally been a girl.
Or real freakout, Neil is the transformed baby and the bottle had been intended for Neil, but there was a mix up.
