Jean AKA Jeannie AKA Jeanie is a film, book, and magazine reviewer for a national magazine. Most of Jean’s work is done through email, which means he doesn't have to go into the office.
On a trip to find a gift for his girlfriend, Jean found an empty Genie Bottle. Upon picking up this bottle, Jean became the bottle’s new genie-powered occupant. Not only was Jean turned into a genie, but the bottle turned him into what he believed a genie of the bottle should look like. Which, due to his fascination with a classic 60s TV show, turned him into a busty blonde woman.
A junior engineer working for a small engineering firm in Cocoa Beach. The firm focuses mostly on NASA projects.
Neil is Jean’s best friend. When Jean was turned into a genie, Neil became Jeanie’s master.
That’s not actually white. If it is supposed to mirror Boss Hogg’s suit, it is probably Seersucker.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seersucker
Wikipedia
Seersucker is a thin, puckered, all-cotton fabric, commonly striped or chequered, used to make clothing for spring and summer wear.
Bo’s top and Luke’s skirt are clearly two parts of one outfit – And considering that Bo was wearing the top part of Neil’s shirt, and Luke the lower half, it appears that Jeannie’s magic tends to sort of work with whatever it has to start with.
don’t know about that luke ended up with a skirt blouse and tee shirt bo barely got a top. and since luke was wearing jeans the skirt would be denim. 🙂
I am going with Boss Hogg in white and he want his Genie in white too, just like he is. Her white costume looks just like her pink and red costume, but, it all white.

And here I thought that the white cap was an old-fashioned fast-food server’s cap.
The last time Jean’s genie clothes were different colours was when she and Araceli swapped bottles. I don’t think something like that has happened. Maybe it was a condition set by Boss Hogg for letting her stay out. They were their usual pink/red attire when she was first released by him.
Naw. Jeannie’s hat (technically a variety of fez) has always functioned as a visual (to the reader, anyway) symbol of her totem and/or master. Notice how, when she switched bottles (and therefore masters) with Araceli, her hat turned blue (along with her outfit.) Now that the bottle is in the possession of a different master, her default outfit reflects that. Of course, Neil will probably never notice – it’s more of a clue to the reader. (Just as it’s also a way to always recognize Jeannie no matter what form she takes. Which is why she can’t ever seem to take it off!) And it probably took effect as soon as she granted Hogg his first wish, which thus acknowledged him as her master.
Jeanie’s original colors and outfit are based on Jean’s personal ideal of what a genie would be. So he looks similar to Jeannie from I Dream of Jeannie. Considering that they were both watching IDOJ together shortly before Jean got a hold of that bottle, I’d guess that Neil had the same ideal, which is why her outfit continues to the pink by default.
Er, but according to Genie law, Hogg can’t be her master yet. I guess she doesn’t know this. Yes she’s bound to the bottle, but she doesn’t have to grant him wishes.
In that case, wouldn’t it had been the same with Melvin when he was briefly her training master? Or was that jinxed when Jean brought up the TV Show with him. Maybe CD isn’t keeping good track on his colouring of Jean if he had earlier on the idea of having Jean’s clothes being colour co-ordinated with masters or totems (like by auras maybe?).
I doubt genie magic can go that far. That part she seems to have granted instinctively, making the car disappear. Maybe she just got rid of any local statues.
I would agree – she clearly does it by instinct or something, since she managed to make the correct “General Lee” disappear without even knowing what it was that was being referred to. She did, however, evidently manage to give a little thought to the “Duke boys”, by deciding to make them girls instead of sending them off to Limbo or wherever.
that examples how she got away way it. He wished it so that the duke boys would never bother him, so she just made them girls. easy mistake. sadly the gerenal lee is a different story. this also makes a point on wishing. Jean doesn’t know what or who the general lee is, yet it still disappeared. in other words, she has some conscious control over how the wish will function, but the foundation and focus ultimately comes from the wisher.
That makes sense, since it seems the granting of wishes is non-optional. Thus, while the intent can be subverted, the wish itself cannot be avoided. And it can only be subverted by the conscious effort of the genie.
The Duke girls can still cause problems for boss Hog. It’s an advantage on the Dukes part since he doesn’t know Bo and Luke are females now. Daisy can give them some pointers about how to be convincing girls. Getting to the bottle may be a problem and Jeanie should not know about the whole plan on how to get the bottle back while it’s under Hogs control.
There might be an easy way to find the bottle, just have Jean go to the bottle and follow the smoke. He is going there any how when he falls asleep. Even if it in a safe at least they might know where it is. Still Jean calling Boss Hog, “Hoggy” bothers me. Could it be that Jean actually likes Boss Hog?
I don’t think she actually likes him, but it is a distinctly feminine thing to do.
I don’t think Hogg asked her to wear white, either. That would count as a wish.
It strikes me that Jeanie hasn’t been anything like this deferential to any of her other masters, including Neil. I believe that the difference is that unlike the others, Hogg understands power. He knows how to boss.
And as both a genie, and as a female, Jeanie responds positively to that.
Jeannie’s not very good at exploiting poor wish phrasing.
1. Turn Boss Hogg friendly
2. Poof Boss Hogg out of existence (can’t be bothered if you don’t exist)
3. Change the Dukes’ surnames (The Hazzard boys of Duke County?)
I do not think Jean could change the name of general Lee. It is just a car. If the Duke boys sold it the car it would have a new name or no name at all. Jean would have to change the memories of everybody who knew of the car as “General Lee.” Else the dukes would just keep calling it The General Lee. It would be just easier to eliminate the car. It is not alive band the Dukes could just buy another General Lee.
The problem is that you had time to think about it. Jean had moments, and Jean never struck me as the brightest bulb in the package,. Jean probably just went with her old stand by, turning men into women. It worked.
Maybe, maybe not. Civil War happens. South loses. It happened. Fixed Point. Can’t be changed. However, would history be changed enough to break that point if Robert E. Lee wasn’t the leader of the Confederate Army, but instead Albert S. Johnston or James Longstreet? Would there be any serious change other than whose name is on the memorials and in the history books? Details in battles would change, but the outcome? We’ll never know. It’s all Wibbly-Wobbly, Timey-Wimey. 😛
Unknowable of course–but the question goes beyond Win/Lose at Appomattox.
I believe it’s safe to say that Lee’s personality shaped not only the military events, but the political events, and the subsequent interpretation of events by contemporary pundits and historians.
Gen. Lee was (and is) a revered figure in a way that Johnston or Longstreet could not have been. The Duke’s car might well have been named the General Lee regardless of outcome.
50srefugee I believe is mostly right. How the war shaped out was dramatically effected by the presence General Lee. For instance if it had not been For General Lee prolonging the war slavery might not have ended and much of the destruction of the south might have been avoided. There might have even been a second civil war.
I do disagree with one thing 50srefugee said. I doubt that had General Lee had not excised that He would be such a reveared figure in the south in that they would have never heard of him.

Why is she in white? Are her powers still messed up?
It probably has something to do with Boss Hogg. He always wears white clothes.

Could we read something in Luke getting a modest Belle like outfit and Bo being on display as they say?
Bo’s top and Luke’s skirt are clearly two parts of one outfit – And considering that Bo was wearing the top part of Neil’s shirt, and Luke the lower half, it appears that Jeannie’s magic tends to sort of work with whatever it has to start with.

I figured it was like on Galactica 80 when they went faster than lightspeed and their clothes turned white, since we’re visiting old TV shows.
Wedding dress?
It looks like Jeannie is getting sick or something
Bridal Jean(n)ie?
Oh, I like that idea!
That was my first thought too.

@MADiver…. Let’s just hope it remains *seer*sucker, eh?
(Sometimes, a cigar is just a cigar, right?)
Yea the hubcap on the wall made it look like a bridal outfit.
Called it!
A minor miracle to supply women’s clothing.
A nice touch that while Hogg’s genie she’s color coordinated.
And here I thought that the white cap was an old-fashioned fast-food server’s cap.

Huh, I hadn’t thought of that, but I bet you’re right!
If it is white because of Boss Hogg, though, what does that say about it being pink for Neil?
Jeanie’s original colors and outfit are based on Jean’s personal ideal of what a genie would be. So he looks similar to Jeannie from I Dream of Jeannie. Now that everyone knows that Jeanie is a real Genie, they can plan there next line of attack or make plans to get that Genie Bottle back now.
I thought that genies weren’t allowed to kill innocents? “Poofing into oblivion” doesn’t sound nice though.
Also, I notice a change in wardrobe.
I think of oblivion more so as a void without anything. So I was thinking they would be conscious and aware of the void while they remained there.
Not dead, but not exactly living either.
Riff Raff: Say ‘Hello’ to Oblivion, Frankenfruter.
Audience: Hello, Oblivion; how’s the wife and kids?
So… Kansas?
“BOTHING” ?
Dangit! I saw that error after posting the page, and corrected it in my local copy. But I somehow forgot to post the corrected version!
It’s fixed now.
Ut oh why hoggy woggy is she starting to get infatuated with him
I wonder if she’s aware that she called him “Hoggy”, or that her outfit is white. Is she slowly linking with her new master?
I think it more likely it’s an un-affectionate nickname, especially since it’s so close to accusing him of being a pig (or acting like one).
I am fairly sure that that Jeannie will have Boss Hogg getting a lot closer in looks to his name by the end of this.
Uh, or she could poof HOGGY onto an island or another planet or something. Hey, the boys would NEVER bother him again.
Hogg’s 2nd wish should be:
“I wish I knew how to use my last wish without it backfiring or
whatever I wish for being taken away.”
Suddenly I’m wondering whether Boss Hogg’s wish changed history and Lee was never a general…
I doubt genie magic can go that far. That part she seems to have granted instinctively, making the car disappear. Maybe she just got rid of any local statues.

I, too, think “Hoggy” is semi-affectionate.

Not that I’m complaining about the “Duke girls.”
If a name change was all that was necessary then “General Lee” could have become “Corporal Pettigrew”
Or it could have been renamed the General Jackson, Bragg, Stuart, etc. Lots of Confederate Generals out there.
Or it could have been renamed General Duke… https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Basil_W._Duke

The General Lee should have been changed into a Prius.
Interesting choice of outfits, Jeanie made, for the new girls.
The General Lee poofed out of existence. Talk about Art imitating life.
If she poofed General Lee out of existence then time is going unravel.

You know I was referring to THE General Lee and its removal from TV
So it was Jean who stirred all that up and got the show pulled from TV…
I saw this movie poster on IMDB and immediately thought of our favourite bottle blonde: http://www.imdb.com/media/rm1849222656/tt3859304
I got a kick out of the poster, as well as the ‘Bottle Blonde’ Reference.
Funny thing is that that just sort of popped out, unplanned, as i was typing.
Yay, I called it. Guess I understand genie mind games.
