Jean AKA Jeannie AKA Jeanie is a film, book, and magazine reviewer for a national magazine. Most of Jean’s work is done through email, which means he doesn't have to go into the office.
On a trip to find a gift for his girlfriend, Jean found an empty Genie Bottle. Upon picking up this bottle, Jean became the bottle’s new genie-powered occupant. Not only was Jean turned into a genie, but the bottle turned him into what he believed a genie of the bottle should look like. Which, due to his fascination with a classic 60s TV show, turned him into a busty blonde woman.
I have a feeling that “gratifying” feeling Jean is feeling may be related to her now being a genie that grants wishes. Basically it is now a part of her personality that was forced into her when she picked up the bottle and she now wants to give people what they want.
Somehow I doubt that. Since a genie’s magic can’t “charm” or alter a person’s sense of self, I doubt it can affect a genie either. Kind of like the Greek boat captain when he tried to force Jeanie to become his wife.
I was thinking that it was more along the lines of “people treat me well and tip generously now that I’m a hot babe instead of a dude”. But that’s a distinct possibility, too.
Considering that most myths depict genies as being forced into service and enjoying twisting words to prank people, I don’t think a positive feeling for helping others is ever grafted onto their personalities. It’s very likely that Jean just feels happy to not have to go back to the bottle, also all of the tips and other benefits of being a female waitress over a male one is probably a plus 😛
Whatever the psychology, I’m glad to see Jeanie finds serving others gratifying. This is probably not what Hogg intended–I expect that he thought it would be humiliating.
As to psychology, I expect being a genie does have a lot to do with it, given that genies are inclined to serve. But I expect that being an attractive female also plays a role, since she’s undoubtedly receiving many compliments, lots of positive feedback. (And this being a restaurant, not a bar, where families are present, the customers are likely more polite. Not that restaurant customers can’t be demanding and rude, mind.)
Finally, if nothing else, Jeanie is an adult now, not a rebellious teen.
I was expecting Jean to say something that might have implied
that she was a male during her Yourgrt days.
Could Jean be using magic to be the perfect hostess?
Making her serving tray gyroscopically stabilaised and
Speech to texting her orders on her paper memo pad?
Oh, come on, guys – there’s no magic needed here – Jeanie is simply growing as a person, and her experiences are gradually allowing her to become less and less of the self-centered twit that she/he used to be.
Eventually she’ll probably even come to realize that the reason that Belle thought Neil was such a great lover is that he actually cared about Belle’s feelings, unlike the old Jean. Neil treated Belle like a person, not just a piece of ass.
Perhaps. I hope so. But it would be a sudden spent of growth. Up until this point Jean has shown himself as mostly an self absorbed egotist. there would be nothing so boring than id
Jean would become an obedient submissive and Neal her dominant Master. I perfur the interplay between two relative equals.
It could also mean that she changing her strategy too, because, she doesn’t like being in the bottle. It will also force her to act in a more lady like manor too. But, remember Jean is still deep inside her hart and does explode sometime and then look out, everybody to the bomb shelters.
“there’s no magic needed here – Jeanie is simply growing as a person,”
I agree no magic is needed to explain her gratification (although this is consistent with what we’re told is the genie nature), but her competence is remarkable.
Most of us serve in one way or another, be it food, financial, or even military service. I am sure it doesn’t hurt that there is only a one letter difference between tits and tips.
Yes, we knew that would happen eventually to Jean. Beside, waiting table and serving people, beat sitting in a bottle being bored any old day. She might even get to like it. It the difference of living life or just sitting it out and being a spectator.
Really. You do not think such a scenario might be the death of the series? How long mlong do you think C D Rudd can keep the3 series a happy, obedient submissive and can solve all his problems with a poof. Do you think the strip will be better Neil sleeps with the Duke sisters and Jean help him and cheers him on instead of getting angry. By nature Jean might become a secondary character has to interact with people who are interesting and not just door mats, a MEAR TOOL for her Master to use. It might become a Utopia for her Master but Utopias are boring. Dystopias are much more interesting to read about. It is why Batman is always more popular than Superman.
It is why the dom-sub genre is mostly relegated to porn and maybe bodice rippers. But in the bodice rippers the couple fall in love and get married, that the female gains a relative level of equality.
Even I get tired sometimes with Jean being an egotistic jerk. But that is better than the happy doormat. Better yet they might become relative equals.
Yes, there a Jeanie personality developing inside her, but, at her core, there still a selfish self-centered jerk by the name of Jean that surfaces every so often and will keep things interesting for us.

Or Boss’ wish changed her…

Oh hi Daisy!
For some reason, I doubt she’s doing so consciously. It’s just that as a genie, she’s a preternaturally good servant.
Serving others is a core value of a genie a part of Jeanie just woke up and she noticed it.

Jeanie growing a little bit as a character doesn’t mean she’s going to instantly transform into an obedient submissive.
It could also mean that she changing her strategy too, because, she doesn’t like being in the bottle. It will also force her to act in a more lady like manor too. But, remember Jean is still deep inside her hart and does explode sometime and then look out, everybody to the bomb shelters.

Finally! After this Jean will want a master how makes her serve and grant wishes hopefully.
Seems like Jeannie doesn’t seem to care that she used to be a guy

Daisy Duke in her Daisy Dukes, huh?
How nice. She’s found her true calling. Serving beer in short shorts.
Anybody noticed how feminine are those gestures Jeannie is making? And I thought Jean was too far gone when “she” wanted to have sex with Neil…
