Chapter: Story 07: I Dream of Green Eyes
Happy 300th comic, I Dream of a Jeanie Bottle!
Happy 300th comic, I Dream of a Jeanie Bottle!
Glad that CD Rudd is feeling better (at least I hope he is). Congrats on #300!
Hahaha XD
Happy 300th!
But Neil? You are now doing that thing that the genies do that causes so much trouble. You are jumping to conclusions.
On a separate note, if Neil thinks that Araceli is actually Jean in disguise, why does he refer to her as Jeanie? As far as I know, he’s always called Jean by his real name when they’re alone.
Maybe he to is starting to no longer see her as his friend Jean transformed but rather as Jeanie, his new magical girl friend (not girlfriend) who is causing him a wide variety of problems.
While that may be true when talking about Jean with other people, we just saw Neil call Jean by his name two comics ago even while Jean was trying to seduce him.
Maybe he uses the ‘-ie’ because they’re in public?
Neil assumes that Araceli is really Jean(ie) taking on another disguise to seduce him. Which is only fitting since Araceli once took on Jean(ie)’s form to seduce him (Parts 169, 172, and 173).
Neil calling her Jeanie sounds like Genie/Djinni, which means that Araceli would not realize that he is mistaking her for Jean.
Or, it could be the real Araceli. In addition, if this is the real Araceli, she knows that Jean is no longer in the bottle which spells trouble for Jean.
Blue poof
No, Araceli’s taking care of Roger’s neice/nephew (I forget). Given how hardcore traditional she is with rules, I’m pretty sure she wouldn’t just poof off to visit an ex-whatever.
……Mostly sure. Like, seventy percent or so.
no the poof was blue and the only time i recall jean poofing blue was the switching of the bottle
This is defiantly Blue. To bad Niel wasn’t this forcefull with the real Jean.
Jeanie probably is avoiding thinking of Araceli right now, I mean its possible that’s part of the reason she’s so obsessed with finding out what Niel does differently
Ah! Back again in better health, I hope.
So how would anyone tell the difference between Araceli and Jeanie-as-Araceli?
Jean would never address Neil as master. Araceli on the other hand has it the past and has shown interest in Neil. Neil can’t see that it’s really Araceli because he thinks Jean is trying to trick him into have sex to see how Neil is better than Jean Belle stated. I could be wrong but from reading this comic book for a while, things seem to go hand in hand but there is the possibility of there being a twist.
Or he could think that Jean is roleplaying.
An hour ago, Neil probably would have considered it impossible that Jean would try getting into his pants.
Very easily, Jean is a egotistical self absorbed slacker, deluded also. Blue is a devoted caring possessive softy. Women have this thing called personalities even twins will act differently. So if you pay attention it is easy to tell them apart.
Jeanies Ego would never let her call Neil master she thinks she is better than him also.
The reason she did not poof Neil back (when he rejected her offer of sex) is because just like when Belle told her Neil/jean was the best sex she ever had, her ego was crushed.
Congratulations on number 300!!! 😀 😀 😀
Ditto. Gratz!!!
Shouldn’t Caley be Araceli’s new master?
After the third wish, Araceli could move on the next master if she want to. She only staying where Caley is, because she has nowhere else to go. It mostly out of convince, before Araceli chooses her new master or her next master or in this case, her former master if he will take her. Which is what she trying to do now.
technically but she prefers Neil, Caley is just the brat shes stuck with currently XD
Regardless I’d hope it’s poor genie etiquette to call another genies master master while your serving a different one yourself. That just screams I’m leaving the person I’m meant to be serving to try and steal someone else’s. Really the longer this comic goes on the less I’m liking Araceli. I know if she pulled this kind of stunt on me it’d be ringing all kinds of alarm bells that this is not a person you want to associate with.
I see Neil grew a pair and a half after seeing Jean’s strange new behavior. No way he would have ever spoken to her in that tone before. Poor Araceli had to be on the receiving end of that. She is going to be terribly hurt.
No, Neil was pretty “tough” with Araceli before when she tried to “improve” his office. Neil seems to really take his job seriously and anything that interferes with that he gets hard-ass about.
I guessing Neil finally talked Jeanie down so she’s sleeping by now.
“Neil finally talked Jeanie down.”
It’s later than eight in the morning [/?p=1673]; my guess is that Neil just escaped and came in to work.
Honestly I don’t care that much given what she’s trying to pull here.
Congrats on 300.
Oh boy…I guess Neil is going to have another genie problem.
Robert? When did Neil have a chance to put on that green undershirt between frames one and two?
Hey, I’m just the editor. Complain to CD about art errors! 😉
Fine fine, I’ll go fix it.
So Araceli, sobbing because Neil rejected her advances, poofs back to Neil & Jeanie’s apt, and discovers a disheveled Jeanie sobbing because her Master rejected her advances.
Later, Neil returns home to find his two genies passed out in the living room from chocolate and pink wine.
Better would be that Jean spills that Neil had sex with Belle, which would get Neil in trouble with two genies instead of just one.
And the blue between the buildings, panel three
I think this scene takes place in the break room inside the building. From experience, I know the real Sunshine State (Florida) has a lot of “liquid sunshine,”aka “rain.” Putting the coffee outside would be stupid.
BTW, Florida also has more tornados than any other state. Other attractions include walking catfish which attack dogs and cats, and imported Burmese pythons which are getting big enough to eat the alligators.
I was thinking coffee stand on the way to work, that looks like a sidewalk across the way. Also don’t forget kudzu, stand in one place too long and it will cover you up.
I don’t know about the sidewalk, but the thingy between the windows kind of looks like the drain from a gutter (an important part of any Florida building without a collapsed roof.) Yeah, maybe an outdoor stand.
Wouldn’t #301 be a perfect time for Agent Anderson to ask Neil who is the blue-haired woman who just poofed in (and maybe out) of the break room? Naah, she’s probably stuck on duty in Orlando for awhile, unless she came down to look around on her own time…
I still say Neil should just put Rodge in a brown wig, Jeannie won’t know the difference as sleep deprived as she is. Though in this case I’m not so sure that isn’t the real Arcelli, though it is odd that she would just show up out of the blue.
Blue-nimbused POOF! mean’s it’s really Araceli, unless she switched bottles again with Jean(ie). Besides, at this point, Jean(ie) doesn’t know that Araceli tried (and maybe succeeded) in seducing Neil, and I don’t think Jean(ie) thinks at this point that Neil would find Araceli attractive.
Personally I’m hoping Neil did do the deed with Araceli, and that Jean(ie) finds out. And what better time than when Dreaming of Green Eyes?
I wonder if Araceli will get fire in her eyes when she finds out Neil had sex with Belle, and whether the flames will be red like Jean’s, or a more color-coordinated blue?
Also Jeannie always wears a littie red hat whn she transforms. No red hat.
She doesn’t always have the hat when she transforms. https://jeaniebottle.com/?p=4
Hooray, the 300th page! To think I started reading this on vacation about 2 years ago.
Hope you’re feeling better CD
Araceli sure has a thing for Neil.
We need to what is really on Neil mind and that was what he was to have for lunch.
Congrats on 300 quite an achievement, pat yourself on the back.
Thanks for sticking with it and giving us a great comic to read and enjoy
Cheetaur
I always find it funny how people seem to want to put Neil with one of the genies.
Personally, I’d rather him choose neither of them. Both of them are horrible people in their own ways, and Neil just seems to be stuck in the middle of it whether he likes it or not.
Agree with you.
Maybe Neil could wish that they both leave him alone forever. But, that would be the end of the comic, which we don’t want.
Everyone is shipping Neil and Jeanie which if this was IDOJ would make sense, but Its not. Araceli would be the closest to Jeannie of IDOJ, Jean would not.
Further more Jeanie and Neil would be just creepy and weird. Both of them know Jean was a man and they were best friends.
I don’t know were CD is going with this story but Jeanie and Neil together is just wrong. Now Neil and Blue i could see but considering the bad blood between Blue and Jeanie that would be a tough match.
Hey, what’s wrong with Neil and Jeanie getting together? I don’t see anything “creepy and weird” about that. They already have a close relationship as friends, and Jean is clearly stuck as a female, *and* she’s right that Neil is attracted to her.
I guess that ticks me off is that what you said smacks of transphobia. Which seems like something that really doesn’t belong in the comments on a CD Rudd webcomic.
First to Robert: Is there such a thing as cis-phobia? It’s just as important to respect someone’s uneasiness, even discomfort, with the situation that Neil and Jeanie now find themselves in, as it is to support fans of the story.
If you asked Jean himself, before finding the bottle, how he would feel about being magically transformed into a girl, and then having sex with another man, I suspect he would feel more than a little creepy and weird about even being asked, and even more so about the situation.
We’ve seen that Jean would have no problem having sex with genie Natalie, but that’s because Jean is rather superficial about such things. But remember we know that because Neil asked Jeanie that very question, specifically to bring her up short.
To Bad Taiming: The central question of the comic–if we look below its joke-a-day surface–is whether or not Jeanie still is male inside, or if she is becoming female to her core. We’ve seen enough female behavior, such as hugging Neil in gratitude, and even instinctively bringing him lunch at work, that I suspect Jeanie really is Jeanie now, and not Jean.
That is, in fact, exactly what this story arc seems to be about. Are we seeing Jean or Jeanie? How would Jeanie react to actually having sex with Neil? How would that affect their friendship?
And I’ll say to everyone, I hope CD takes these questions seriously, striving through the comic, to make us all uncomfortable with our assumptions.
The joke-a-day is fun, but the jokes wear quickly wear thin for me. I want some close examination of Jeanie’s understanding of her own identity, and her friendship with Neil.
I’m even interested in Neil’s own feelings towards Jeanie. We know Neil is attracted to Jeanie’s body, but how does he feel about the person inside? Does he still see Jean in Jeanie, and does the thought of becoming romantically involved with the rather jerkish Jean give him the creeps? Does he shy away from Jeanie because she used to be a guy, or does he feel that becoming romantically involved with her would put her under the spell of That Old Black Magic that women traditionally wield against men?
Maybe he’s just unconcerned with sexual matters; his whole life is engineering. Maybe it’s just the sudden change in Jeanie’s attitude.
We don’t know yet, and I’m looking forward to getting those answers–even if they make me squirm.
Jean is no more and is rapidly becoming Jeanie inside to match her outside appearance of being a female. We still have a remnant of when Jeanie use to be a man or the memories of her being a man running through her head still, which still messes thing up in this comic and probably will for some time to come too. So Jeanie is going to continue to act like some whacked out girl for some time to come yet. Not fulling thinking like a woman nor a man either, but something in between the two. That the way I see it.
Neil on the other hand, is both interested in girls and is also a little timid too to be around also. He wants to develop relationships with a nice women too, but he very shy when he around them also.
Neil in a bad situation here. Jeanie turns him on big time and he getting really hot over her and he desperately trying to contain himself, because he doesn’t want to go too far with her. He may also be seeing Jean in Jeanie and he does remember that this is his old guy friend too. Remember that it only been two or two and a half months since Jean has turned in Jeanie. So it hasn’t been very long since the transformation happened to Jean. Remember that Neil does know who Jean is and probably met him when they were still in grade school, because they are childhood friends that go way back. Neil has known Jean and his self centered way for maybe 15 to 20 years prior to Jean’s transformation into Jeanie.
If Neil is a normal man with the way most men feel when they see a beautiful girl, Neil going to have a difficult time to keep from going sexual with her. Jeanie is starting to act like a girl and she has a beautiful body match too. If Jeanie continue to hit on Neil, it only a matter of time before Neil yield or concedes to Jeanie’s sexual advances on him.
Neil only other choice, is to take off running and don’t look back and leave Jeanie in the dust and get completely away from Jeanie and never go back. But, I don’t see that happening. What I see happening is a slow process of them bouncing back and forth remembering what they use to be to each other and what they are to each other now and what there going to be to each other in the future, before they finally resolve that mater through marriage to each other.
That the way this thing is going to go down. But, I see a lot of knocking heads with each other before that happens and coming to terms with each other in a new kind of relationship before that happens. We also have two other Genie’s that can get involved in this mess along with Rodger, Calay, Belie, the girl from Homeland security showing up, etc. and other things too.
I see at least another 100 to 200 hundred or possibly 300 more post before they get married to each other. But, it has definitely stated moving in that direction now and Jeanie is starting to look at Neil in a more romantic light now. Neil has not reciprocated yet, but we have plenty of time for that later.
I disagree with you on that BadTaiming, Araceli is doing a lot of stuff I can’t see the Jeanie of I dream of Jeanie doing. Trying to steal another genie’s master, trying to sabotage and imprison a new genie who doesn’t yet know the rules. I agree Jeanie’s not a match either but the more the comic goes on the more her personality seems to be shifting to it. Wonder how much is her, how much is just a result of being physically female and treated like one and how much is a result of a magical compulsion on her subconcious from being a nurturing genie.
You guys have all made some great points.
As far as the trans aspect of the comic goes Robert i have no problem with that. Changing bodies does not change how you feel about your friends though. Unless you are driven by you sex drive only and some people are. I don’t see Neil being like that Jean on the other had…..
50srefugee and Larry i agree Jean is changing into a girl inside.
Senko I said Blue would be the closest to Jeannie of IDOJ she also has some of the traits of Jeannie’s nasty sister. But she is not as mean as Jeanie’s sister. Also Jeannie did some nasty things when Major Nelson pissed her off. We also have to remember we have knowledge of what’s going on that some of the characters don’t Blue see’s Jeanie as a obstacle to her getting the master/love she wants.
300 stories…whew.
You know when you are getting old, when you hear a creaking sound and it not the floors.
I believe he said ” 300 posts”. That could mean just three more strips. “If they are jucey ones”
Or CD Rudd could choose to go three hundred more if he want to too. It all up to CD Rudd to what he want to do. There still plenty of stuff that he could do yet with this Jeanie bottle series that he hasn’t toughed yet too.
I think that it would take 300 strips, including the occasional two or three row strip, just to show the progression of Neil and Jeanie’s friendship into a romance. They both have a very great deal to learn about each other, and about themselves before that could plausibly happen. I personally feel we’ve just seen the middle act in the classic three act structure, so CD’s not even half way there, yet.
But also, there are going to be side stories and jokes of the day. So all told, there’s plenty of room for CD to tell the story he wants to tell. Counting strips or even posts is futile.
“I feel we’ve just seen the START OF THE middle act….”
Dammit, I hate sense altering typos and omissions.
The first act was establishing characters, settings, and most especially, introducing us to a genie’s powers. Now Jeanie’s attempted seduction of Neil can start them letting go of their friends/roommates status quo, and moving on to a Master/Genie, male/female relationship.
The third act, then, could well be Neil and Jeanie working together towards some common goal–but that’s a ways off yet, and may not be what CD has in mind.
Jean has been filled out and i am not just talking about her top. But the other main Character is still very much only 2 dimensional. This story has a long way to go yet.
It also depends on the structure CD is using. This is based on a sitcom. If he wants to stick to a sitcom feel, there may not be a grand three-act structure. There might be lots of wacky shenanigans but with things generally returning to the status quo.
There benefits and drawbacks to both approaches. An overarching plot arc can be very satisfying, but sometimes the changes it brings can leave a series in a less entertaining place. It would be interesting to see Jeanie accept her new role, but that might defuse a lot of the comedy as well. Of course, a sitcom approach can sometimes just get into a rut.
Personally, I think Rudd can manage either approach. He doesn’t seem even close to running out ideas to maintain the status quo, so I’ll be entertained if he keeps it a sitcom. On the other hand, if he does shake up the status quo, I trust him to move things into a new, yet still funny, direction.
I don’t think we need to worry about the series ending soon unless Mr. Rudd has a fatal encounter with a moose. You may have noticed the survey about what crossover to do next…
So will he have two genies waiting for him at home or none?
He will have at least one Genie at home when he get there, because the other one is still at Rodger Apartment with Caley. Araceli is just testing the water to see how Neil will respond to her coming to his apartment. But, Araceli could surprise us and come to Neil Apartment later too. Belle could also show up there too looking for Jean one last time before he goes back to the middle east. We are still in section 7 or the green eyes section. So no telling what going to happen. Only CD Rudd know at this point of what going to happen. We will have to wait and see.
I am not CD Rudd, but, I would have a Genie fight over Neil now between the two Genie’s Araceli and Jeanie of who going to end up with Neil. I would have Belle come in while the battle going on and not know what going on and has a wishful thinking kind of wish while she twirling Jeanie’s bottle in her as she wishes to have one more entire weekend with Jean her lover. Of Course Jeanie’s going to have to comply with that wish that being made to her while she also having a Genie fight Araceli. Let poor Neil be stuck between the three of them. Let this be the climax of number 7. Green eye, before going number 8.
I don’t know. I don’t see Neil really ever falling for Jean(nie). Sure, he may be attracted to her physically, but that only goes so far. It isn’t even the “she used to be my friend” thing as plenty of friends go from platonic to intimate all the time (better to start a relationship with friendship and not just lust).
To be blunt – Jean(nie) is just plain mean to him. And with the powers of a Djinn, that meanness can have a real bite to it. Short of a drastic change of personality over time (leading Jeannie to becoming fawningly subserviant like Aracelli tries to act), there’s just no way I can see the two developing a relationship of meaningful intimacy.
Where Neil’s at risk, in my opinion, is with Rodge – but only if Neil is unwillingly Natalie for more extended periods of time. They have the same interests (always a good thing for a relationship) and he’s actually been fairly considerate and understanding of Neil/Natalie’s predicament. Other than a little of justifiable ogling and some unjustifiable drunken advances, he’s (remarkably) been quite the gentleman.
I’m still rooting for the underdog (an AP’d Caley), but Natalie/Rodge would be my second ship of choice.
“…an AP’d Caley…” Sorry, what’s “AP’d”?
The question is, how much of Jean is left in Jeanie? And what effect will the master/genie roles have on both Jeanie and Neil?
This is Jeanie’s story; the question isn’t, Who among the characters will hook up? but rather, Who will Jeanie hook up with? And her master is the likely choice. I think one of Aracelli’s roles in this story is as an example of how genies feel about a master who is kind and respectful.
AP = Age Progressed (or Progression): the opposite of the more common AR (Age Regressed/regression).
And, the story can still be about Jean(nie) without her ever hooking up with someone new while other relationships develop around her (either due to or despite her meddling).
Besides, there’s still the Jean-Belle relationship drama that has to come to a head sooner or later. While Belle may or may not be bi or bi-curious, it is possible that Belle and Jeannie develop into platonic friends and that relationship taking center stage (Belle gaining the bottle and Neil/Natalie fading into the backdrop as a more minor character).
