It is smarter to say you do a job you actually know. “I’m an engineer”, “oh who do you work for” “recently finished my course and currently trying to find work” then any follow up queations will be on thinhs she knows.
@senko, if you think neil is capable of that you haven’t been paying attention. So far I think only Kazom has got his head on straight, especially under stress.
Half the fun of this comic is that EVERYONE panics.

Rodger conveniently forgot to ask Nelly (good name) to give his jacket back at the end of the date!!!! Now Neil is going to have to return the jacket for her. Or else Rodger will have to stop by to retrieve it, giving him a chance to see her again. That is awesome.
I don’t understand what’s funny about being a librarian.
@Senko, Neil could not say that “her job” was working in the cube next to him, nor do I think “she” would admit to sometimes being a stripper. 🙂
Rodger might suggest there might be an opening at his company and asks for a resume. Maybe he suggests Nellie friend him on LinkedIn for a reference. That could get complicated pretty quick. Maybe not such a good idea.
Neil’s librarian second cousin visiting from out of state would be a more plausible lie.
At which point she “blows up” at him about assuming she needs help finding work just because she’s a woman and storms out. Thus reducing the chances of him asking for a second date, avoiding needing to give a fake number or the like and having a usable reason to leave early. Win win really.
You’re really giving Neil more credit than he’s earned. Most of the time the minute something gets a little bit off course he just stands there like a deer in the headlights. Honestly, I’m proud of him for having been able to talk in complete sentences. To have made a lie of any kind and stuck to it is outright impressive for him.
There’s 5.4 libraries per 100,000 people. Saying you’re a librarian in a small town like Cocoa Beach is essentially giving someone your contact information. Whatsisname should be able to figure out that Neil lied about her job pretty quickly if he puts any kind of effort into finding her.
There are other places than public libraries that employ librarians. Many large companies employ librarians in their internal libraries and as research assistants in support of marketing, etc.
Its rich that *Nelly* seems to have handle *her* first date as though it was an unexpected twist at the end of an O.K. movie, perhaps one that *Nelly* watches a couple more times and decides to keep in her *collection* wink wink. No seriously this is one of the best strips yet love the fact that Jean is just watching TV. Supernatural being gets board watching cable.
At this point I think that the date has “gone horribly right”, and that Roger thinks that it is HOT that “Nellie” (as CD is calling her) is a librarian and knows engineering stuff. In short, Roger is going to want to start an actual relationship.
And as far as “a thousand channels and nothing good on” goes, the available of more channels sadly does not result in the production of more content–there’s still the same amount of money and good-quality talent for producing new shows as there was before. Instead, what we get is either lots of duplication, or lots of older shows being aired that would have been squeezed off of the schedule if fewer channels were available, or at best we get some shows that were only available locally/regionally now available nationally (or internationally).
I hope the guy left his number in the jacket and Jean textes him to set Neil and him up more just for laughs. Also Does this red haired guy have a name? And if not you should try to work it in next panel.
I thought the joke was that librarian has been used in other jokes for lesbian. And Neil telling the guy that he is a librarian probably has him thinking that she is a lesbian, since she did not fall for him.
Seems like whatever the author’s intent for the joke to be has slipped past most of the audience like smoke, with nothing firm to grasp it by.
My guess?
Jean has never seen or heard of a Librarian who looks like a made-to-order magic supermodel, who would be much more likely to make herself a small fortune spinning around a pole in a “Sexy Librarian” costume, than actually spend most of her day in a quiet dead tree storage facility that attracts more homeless people than actual readers in the 21st century.
Jean’s opinions on women could not have been called very progressive, before or after his transformation. It does seem like the sort of opinion he’d voice aloud if he could get a breath in.
Ok funny on both accounts, the strip and neil as a bunny.
Happy Easter CD….:)
Don’t eat too much chocolate. 🙂
Interesting that Neil felt the need to lie about her job.
Because it’s so much smarter to say you’re an engineer at the same company and work in the same team?
It is smarter to say you do a job you actually know. “I’m an engineer”, “oh who do you work for” “recently finished my course and currently trying to find work” then any follow up queations will be on thinhs she knows.
Can’t really be like “I work at your work.”
@senko, if you think neil is capable of that you haven’t been paying attention. So far I think only Kazom has got his head on straight, especially under stress.
Half the fun of this comic is that EVERYONE panics.
So glad someone mentioned the Neillie bunny.
Nellyalso seems a touch shellshocked even before she gets confused by Jeannies collapsing in laughter.

Yes, that is exactly what I told Rodge.
Rodger conveniently forgot to ask Nelly (good name) to give his jacket back at the end of the date!!!! Now Neil is going to have to return the jacket for her. Or else Rodger will have to stop by to retrieve it, giving him a chance to see her again. That is awesome.

No but she could say she’s an engineer for another company, unemployed, does part ime work.
Rodger might suggest there might be an opening at his company and asks for a resume. Maybe he suggests Nellie friend him on LinkedIn for a reference. That could get complicated pretty quick. Maybe not such a good idea.

Why’s it so funny? 😮
I found it funny because if Nelly works as a librarian and Librarians work with stacks and he’s currently Stacked !
whatever,, it sounded funnier in my mind.
I think that Neil as Neillie should get get everything that goes with being a member of the fair sex.
Its rich that *Nelly* seems to have handle *her* first date as though it was an unexpected twist at the end of an O.K. movie, perhaps one that *Nelly* watches a couple more times and decides to keep in her *collection* wink wink. Must have gone well if he gave her his jacket.
Neil needs to make a wish that jean can not transform or transport him with out his permission.
I believe he’s used up his alotment of wishes at this point she’s not really obliged to grant them going by the original series anyway.
Very interesting, at least Neal got a free meal out of this brew ha-ha.
Any long range plans Neal hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
I hope the guy left his number in the jacket and Jean textes him to set Neil and him up more just for laughs. Also Does this red haired guy have a name? And if not you should try to work it in next panel.
Yes, the red-head has a name. It was mentioned before.
Jean hit the floor, where’s the “thud” or “whump” – I should know, after reading this one, I was on the floor myself!
THANK YOU, CD!!! Loved this one, awaiting the next one!
she’s on the couch.
How about making Nelly a Green Lantern.
Guess few people remember the “Librarian” from the movie Tom Cats. Turns out she was also a dominatrix, as well as her grandma.
I remember that one but was assuming I’d missed something in the story itswlf that accounts for Jeans hilarity.
If that’s really the reference, it’s extremely obscure and I assume missing something a lot more specific than “Librarian” to sew the joke together.
Oh.
I thought it was something like she said was Lebonese.
In the next strip……
“Give me a minute before you change me back.
I’ll be in my room.
Um… Make that 30 minutes.”
Like, she is from Libraria?
I like this panel… but I cannot for the life of me figure out something witty to say about it.
I thought the joke was that librarian has been used in other jokes for lesbian. And Neil telling the guy that he is a librarian probably has him thinking that she is a lesbian, since she did not fall for him.
Did Jeannie’s boobs get bigger?

Oops. Gravatar test
Encore oops.
So… Engineering is hot? I KNEW I picked it right! XD
