IDofaJB Updates

August 19th, 2010 | by admin

IS ARCHIVE

Well, up till now, the policy for updates has been ‘When I Can’. Which has lead to an average of once a week.

At the end of this month I’ll be going away for an extended trip for work.

As such I have no idea how this  will effect comic posting on both SailorSun.org and I Dream of a Jeanie Bottle. till I go, I’ll be working on a making some kind of a buffer. Which will mean, that ‘I Dream of a Jeanie Bottle’ comic will be limited to ‘No more then once a week’ till I can determine how often I can update at the new location.

Hopefully this will minimize the website down time.

Spelling and Grammer

June 29th, 2010 | by admin
Posted In: Blog
IS ARCHIVE

OK, lately I’ve been getting a bit of slapping around about spell checking and grammar.

I’ve been accused of being everything from lazy, incompetent, to being dyslexic. So let me point out a couple things.

First of all, I have never been diagnosed as dyslexic. If you want to believe I am, I don’t really care, but it would be nice to stop posting I am. Most of my spelling and grammar mistakes are common mistakes that can be made by anyone. I’ve never excelled at spelling in school and guess what, lots of people suck at it.  Some people are good spellers, some aren’t.

I’d love to have a buffer of comics and proof readers, but the rare times I do get a buffer, it gets used up and I’m back to rushing comics before deadlines. Which means the spelling is sometimes overlooked.

Second of all, I make comics as a HOBBY! I like drawing and I like making comics. I don’t generate enough revenue for it to be anything CLOSE to a job. For my actual job, I fix equipment that costs millions of dollars. I’m trusted to maintain and keep devices working that thousands of people depend on and some depend on for their very lives, and I often work in very hazardous conditions and locals. And you know what, I’ve dam good at my job, I enjoy it, and I probably make more money then most of the people who read webcomics.

I’ve poured a lot of time, finances, and energy into making these comics. Because I enjoy it, and I’d hope others would enjoy reading them too. I don’t rely on income from webcomic for anything other then helping with promoting the comics.

If my spelling upsets you so much, I have a very simple solution.

STOP reading the comic.

I mean, I don’t get it. Who’s forcing you to sit in front of a computer and read poorly spelt comics?

I have no problem with people pointing out spelling errors. Even though I sometimes feel like crap for missing a obvious mistake, at least I’ll know about it so I can eventually fix it. I do try to fix mistakes but fixing them is a lot more work then just going in and altering a picture. I have 3 digital copies of each comic. You only see one of them. When I fix the spelling on one comic I need to fix the others to, which ends up taking time.

It you want to be a troll or a smart ass, I have no problem banning you from the site. And if it becomes a big enough bother, then I’ll stop making the comics all together or focus on making comics to publish on Lulu or some other self-publishing site. People who WANT to read my comics could buy them instead of reading them for FREE online.

Remember, ‘I Dream of a Jeanie Bottle’ was suppose to be a one time comic. It’s only being continued because fans want it continued.

I Dream of a Jeanie Bottle is a year old.

It’s official. One year ago, I started the website for the comic.

The first couple I Dream of a Jeanie bottle comics were already posted on DeviantArt but because the comics became so popular amongst the readers, it deserved it’s own website.

I hope you’ve all enjoyed the comic so far, and keep reading to see the antics of Jean and Neil for another year.

Heads up everyone, the ‘Create a Jeanie’ Contest is almost at it’s end.

This contest is to create a genie that will be used in the comic. If your interested, you have till the end of hte week to make a submission.

Here’s the objective.

There will be an appearance of a new female genie character in the up coming comics. This new genie has to be female, a bottle genie, and she is currently on/in the ocean trapped in her bottle.

Beyond that I leave her design, history, bottle design and even her name up to you. You can use any guide you want, the TV show, comic, or make a Genie completely of your own.

The contest will be open till the end of April (2010).

The prize
The prize will be a selection of ‘I Dream of a Jeanie Bottle’ items from the DA prints/store.

How do you submit your entry?
Post your Genie entry on your DeviantArt page, and add a message (with the link/url) on this journal entry for all to see. The entries will be judged by myself and a select group of impartial judges on design and concept. Artistic ability will not be a deciding factor. Include as much or as little information about your genie as you want.

Rules and conditions,
1) You can submit as many entries as you want,
2) The winning entry’s character will be draw into the ‘I Dream of a Jeanie Bottle’ and may appear in future comics,
3) The winning submission design may be modified to fit the comic’s style and story. It will also be allowed free use for the comic and any future continuation or publishing of the comic,
4) The winning submission creator must agree to free use of the character,
5) The winning submission must be PG rated in appearance.
6) The submission must have a graphical picture of the Genie, but artistic ablitly won’t be judged.
I look forward to reviewing your submissions.

As you might have noticed, I’ve updated the site to get rid of those errors.

The down side will be I don’t have alot of time to spend customizing the site, so till I can it will be kind of bare bones.
